Grant & Rachel
We would like to thank you for taking the time to look over our profile and getting to know a little bit about us. We are very excited to grow our family, and feel strongly that adoption is the best way to do so. We are very family-oriented, and love to laugh and have fun. We hope and pray that you will consider us, and we look forward to the journey before us.
We love our jobs, and career fields. We both love to care for others, and take pride in being able to help others when they are in their greatest time of need. However, despite our passion for our jobs, we cherish time at home with our family the most. We enjoy only having to work two to three days a week, and find fun ways to fill up our off days.
We are both very artistic people. Grant loves to paint and draw, and Rachel enjoys designing spaces and creating crafts. Much of our free time the last two years has been spent renovating our house. Rachel designed the layout, and chose most of the decor, and Grant taught her the construction side of renovating a house.
Grant loves to cook, and create elaborate recipes. While Grant is cooking, Rachel often pulls up a bar stool and keeps him company and/or assists. We always listen to music while cooking. We absolutely love to sing. Whether it is in the kitchen, or in the car, we look for just about any opportunity to sing and play karaoke, even if we may sing slightly off key. We also love to dance, and frequently dance around the kitchen while the food cooks!
What Made Us Who We Are Today
We met each other, and began dating in high school. After graduation, Grant began working in construction with his father to pay for his future schooling. Rachel enlisted in the Army National Guard while still in high school, and shipped out to basic training immediately after graduation. She was then sent to combat medic school in San Antonio, Texas. When she returned, the military paid her way through nursing school at the University of Southern Mississippi. Grant then went back to school at a nearby community college, where he studied paramedicine.
Despite the odds, and the distance, we have now been together for nearly ten years, and have been happily married for two and a half of those. Rachel currently works as a critical care nurse at the local hospital, and Grant works as a paramedic for the local Fire Department. Rachel continues to serve in the Army National Guard as an Army Nurse officer. She drills for one weekend every month at a non-deployable unit, where she performs pre and post-deployment physicals for soldiers. We absolutely love our jobs. Rachel works three 12 hours shifts per week, and Grant works two twenty-four hour shifts per week. One of the best things about our jobs, is that this child will have one of the two of his/her parents home for all but one day of the week. On this day, the child will stay with Grant's mother, who is thrilled to open her home to her new grandchild.
This child will know that he or she was adopted from day one. As they grow, they will further understand what this means. This child will grow up knowing of you and will be continually told of the love you have for them. If you wish for them to know the details surrounding your adoption choice, then we will gladly share these details with the child. Your child will be told all the details of your life that you wish for him or her to know. If you choose to share stories of your upbringing with us, then we will happily share these stories with this child. If you want him or her to see pictures of you, to compare physical features, then we look forward to sharing these with him/her. If this child grows up and later in life desires a relationship with you, and you agree, then we will encourage this. If you would prefer for this child to not know these details of your life, then we will ensure that your memory is always painted in the best light.
Our House and Neighborhood
Our small southern town is known for its historic charm. We live in the heart of downtown, surrounded by many gorgeous antebellum homes. Our home is nearly 90 years old. It is a craftsman bungalow, with a traditional southern front porch, containing a cedar porch swing, that overlooks the Mississippi River. With the help of Grant's dad, we have renovated our house from top to bottom. We kept many of the traditional features of our house such as the clawfoot tub, and we exposed an old brick fireplace, and wooden wall in our kitchen. Our style is a mixture of modern and traditional, with some rustic accents. In the backyard, we have a raised back porch with outdoor seating, and a grill. We also have a fire pit in the yard, and a small wood working shop. Grant and his dad have plans to custom build a swing set including a tree house in order to complete our backyard.
We live within walking distance of a large playground, and an outdoor art display where our annual 4th of July firework show is held. We also live within walking distance of the local library, and an A rated elementary school. Our little town puts on many festivals throughout the year. Our most known ones include Christmas in the Park, where Santa rides in on a real train; and Porch Fest, where the historic homes have live music, bouncy houses, and lots of good southern cooking in their front yards.
Our Extended Families
No matter the physical distance, family is very important to us. Rachel's family lives in Indiana, and Michigan, so we only get to see them a few times a year. When we do get together, we spend the entire trip playing board games, and watching movies. Rachel has three other siblings. Her younger brother and sister live at home with her parents. Her older sister is an occupational therapist, and has a beautiful 1-year-old daughter, whom Rachel loves to spoil.
Grant's family members were all born and raised in the same town in which we currently in. His mother and stepfather live in the country. They have a beautiful farm house complete with an in ground pool, and private lake. Grant's mother, Theresa, will watch your child when we have to work. She is already looking forward to when the child is old enough to be enrolled in swimming lessons. Grant's father and step mother live on the same road as us. Grant's father owns a construction company. Grant's older brother currently lives a few hours away while he completes his degree. However, he frequently comes home on the weekends for our family cookouts. Usually once a week we get together at Grant's dad's house and barbecue and play yard games, such as badminton, and corn hole. Grant also has a step sister, who is currently pregnant, and nephew who is 15. We are excited for this child to have cousins nearby that are so close in age.
From Us to You
We would like to thank you for taking the time to read about us, and for considering an adoption plan for your child. We are so excited to be parents. If we are blessed with the opportunity to bring your child into our home and family, we promise to provide a loving and nurturing environment for him or her.
We first met and began dating in high school. We have been together for ten years, and have been married for nearly three of those. Prior to meeting, we both independently wanted to adopt, and were thrilled to learn that this was a shared desire. Adoption is our first choice to grow our family. We know that we can love a child just as much if they are adopted, as we could if we gave birth to him or her. We cannot express how excited we are to add a child to our lives.
Grant is a paramedic at the local fire department. Rachel is a critical care nurse at the local hospital, and works as an army nurse at a non-deployable unit for the Army National Guard. Although we both love our jobs, and enjoy working and being able to give back to our local community, we most enjoy spending time with one another, and finding fun activities to fill our free time. One of the coolest parts of our jobs, is that we only work two-three days a week to be considered full time. This means that this child will have one of the two of us home for all but one day a week. Rachel is also able to move her work days around, in order to make time for different activities that the child may have going on, such as school programs in the future.
We cannot wait to be able to read to the child, and play games with him or her. We want to be able to teach them how to play different sports, and explore their talents, and dreams. We want to enroll them in extracurricular classes of their choosing. We hope to lead this child by example in all things in life. We believe that being a successful human being, is defined as being a trustworthy, kindhearted, and respectful.
Family is extremely important to us. We have been so blessed, by our families' responses to our adoption announcement. For Grant, this child will be his parent's first grandchild. His mother, who will babysit the child for one day a week while we work, has already set up a full nursery and playroom in her house. Grant's father who lives just a few houses away has already constructed plans to build a swing set and tree house in our backyard. Our families also love to get together for big cookouts and outdoor games, and are thrilled to be able to include this child in these events.
We sincerely hope that you consider us, and we hope to find out more about you, as this journey unfolds. We are happy to write you letters, and give you picture updates of your child. Please know that we will be praying for you as you go through this decision making process.
