Chris & Cara

Hello and welcome, from Chris and Cara! We are thrilled to be on our journey to become parents and often find ourselves saying 'this will be so much fun to do with our kids!' Adoption has touched our hearts and we are certain of one thing, love makes a family. We hope to connect, learn more about you, and join together in creating a beautiful story.

Our Lifestyle

A Chilly Winter Hike

Right now, we are definitely on the move; we love to stay busy! Weekends you can find us outside, most likely bike riding or playing tennis. We always have an ongoing home project, next up is finishing our basement which we imagine will be very popular once the kids are teenagers and we aren't 'cool' anymore! Evenings are filled with dinner parties and game nights with our close group of friends. A couple times a year we like to go on a new adventure: hiking at a national park, laying on a beach, or exploring a new country to name a few.

While we thrive on an active lifestyle, quiet evenings are our favorite. After work we love to cook dinner together and usually end up dancing around the kitchen island, singing our favorite songs. Nora, our goldendoodle, expects a walk on our neighborhood trail and loves greeting everyone we pass. Evenings finish with watching one of our favorite shows - Great British Baking Show or Schitt's Creek.

While we absolutely love the life we have built, we look forward to doing all these activities with a child! We can't wait to take weeknight walks to the playground and spend weekends making our very own family traditions.

Fun Facts About Us:

We Love Spending Time Together

  • Boy or girl, we have a dinosaur theme planned for the nursery!
  • Thanksgiving weekend we always take the train to downtown Chicago. We like to pick a museum or local attraction and finish at our favorite deep dish pizza joint. The zoo and aquarium are sure to be family favorites.
  • We are both engineers. You read that right, two nerds here! Cara designs food manufacturing lines and loves walking into the grocery store and pointing out the products she worked on: peanut butter, chips, and pizza, a kid's dream. Chris focuses on industrial wastewater treatment and ensuring clean water is sent back to rivers. We are both proud of our contributions to feeding the world and keeping the environment clean.
  • Saturday mornings we have coffee dates in our upstairs nook. We unwind, talk about our dreams, and make goals for the next week. These moments keep us grounded in our relationship and are our favorite way to start the weekend.
  • We went to the same college but met at work! It is fun to share memories of our favorite places on campus and it makes it easy to pick which football team to cheer for on Saturday afternoons!
  • Our family farm is a favorite weekend getaway. We love to pack up the truck full of camping gear and head out for a quiet weekend of lawn games, bonfires and camping. A child is definitely going to get a kick out of feeding the donkeys their favorite cookies!
  • Education We Will Provide

Future mornings in our home are going to involve packing a PB&J lunch and walking hand in hand to school, we are sure of it! Right out our doorstep there are amazing schools which will be able to provide a strong foundation to a child's education. We will encourage our child to pursue the highest level of education they desire. This being said, we believe education is learned just as much outside the classroom as it is inside.

Cara has lots of hobbies to share with a little one including sewing, baking, reading, and gardening. Our kitchen is bound to be covered in flour with warm chocolate chip cookies on the counter. Bedtime will of course include snuggling up for story time. The time spent together in these everyday moments are going to build a strong basis for lifelong learning and independence.

Chris is very handy and can't wait to have a little helper by his side. Projects around the house will give us opportunities to spend time together while learning something new. It will also give a child skills for the future, a lifelong hobby, and sense of accomplishment. No matter if it's a project around the house or spending time at the family farm, we plan to instill an important value of hard work.

Opportunities are the building blocks for a successful future. An education balanced with classroom and practical experiences will set a child up to achieve their goals and have an open perspective on the world.

    Our House and Neighborhood

    Our Home

"Why do you live here if you don't have kids?" was innocently asked by our friend's four-year-old when she came to visit. We all had a good laugh about that, it is a great question!

Believe it or not, this is the only house we looked at during our search a few years ago. The home was outdated but we immediately fell in love with the open floor plan and location. It's a large four bed, three bath home nestled into an established community with schools within walking distance. While we live in the quiet suburbs, a major city is twenty minutes away for date nights, major league sports, and concerts.

Over the past few years we've spent our free time making our house into a home. Our DIY projects have included redoing the kitchen, deck, and installing a fence. Nora, our dog, is loving having a fenced-in backyard and Cara has already marked out the spot for Chris to build a swing set!

Our evenings are often spent outdoors by our fire pit listening to the hums of children playing at the neighborhood pool, the high school marching band, and whistles blowing at the nearby rec center. Walking trails lead to multiple parks, a grocery store, and even a petting zoo. Our neighbors are so friendly and we look forward to adding to the growing number of children playing on our street!

    Our Extended Families

    Hiking With Cara's Family

Our families were overjoyed when we told them the news about becoming parents through adoption! This will be the first grandchild on both sides of the family and our three brothers are already calling themselves 'Uncle' in preparation. We are blessed with the best of both worlds, family in town and family spread throughout the country.

    Chris's Family

Cara's large family lives in town and we can already hear the arguments over who gets to babysit. Our weekends in the summers are often spent down the street having family pool parties while spring and fall weekends include a short drive to the family farm for camping and bonfires. Not a week goes by where we don't have a small family dinner with Cara's parents or large get together with her grandma, aunts, uncles, and cousins!

Chris's family is spread across major cities in the U.S. Trips involve a balance of relaxing, adventure and of course incredible cooking, Chris's family specialty. Summers include boating on the lake and golf while winters bring hiking and trips to museums and fun restaurants. While we don't see them often, we always make the most out of our multiple yearly trips and pick up right where we left off.

    From Us to You

    Hi there,

We've sat down to write this letter so many times. How do we convey our gratitude for you considering adoption and our desire to be parents into the perfect letter? Because let's be honest here, we are in no way, shape, or form perfect. We are human so we can't promise perfection, but there is a lot we can promise.

We promise that while having biological children didn't come easy for us, the decision to adopt did. Between the two of us, we have ten cousins through international and domestic adoption. In fact, one of Cara's first memories is waiting with her family at the airport for her cousin to arrive from South Korea. We've experienced first hand the instant bond with adopted family members and are thrilled to be able to become parents through adoption. The thought of being chosen to raise a child in our home is so humbling and we are grateful for the opportunity to be considered.

We promise to be the best parents we can be. We've been together for six years, and married for almost three. Our marriage is built on a strong foundation, we genuinely enjoy spending time together and are each other's best friends. The journey to adoption has strengthened our relationship in ways we never thought possible; we can confidently say we are 100% committed not only to our child, but also to each other. We promise to parent together with patience and love, to forgive and forget, and to always put family first. Our goal as parents is to raise a child with the tools needed to be successful at whatever they put their mind to.

We promise to bring endless opportunities. They will be free to find their own path whether that is sports, theatre, cooking, reading, or whatever other activity may spark their interest. We promise to provide constant encouragement every step of the way. We are both so thankful to our parents for supporting our dreams and we plan to extend the same support to our future children.

We promise to have fun! We have a running list of things we can't wait to do as a family: decorate Christmas cookies, go to Disney World, and turn our family room into a big pillow fort to name a few. Our home is full of love and laughter and we can't wait for the joy and silliness a child will bring to our lives. We promise to laugh, smile and make memories that will last a lifetime.

We promise to be open with you and with your child. They are bound to have countless questions and we will need your help with the answers. You hold a special place in your child’s life that we could never replace, and we don’t want to. We understand that for our dreams of having a family to come true, that there is loss. We hope this isn’t the shutting of a door but the opening of one. Should you choose, we would love to navigate open adoption with you, to send pictures and stories back and forth, to laugh about the funny moments and cry over the hard ones. What could be more wonderful than not one, but two families full of love for a child?

We take comfort in knowing that on this imperfect journey, the perfect person is going to find us at the perfect time. We would love to connect with you and learn more about your story. Until then, we promise to continue to pray for you.

All our love and best wishes,

    Chris & Cara
