Adam & Liz
We are a family of three with three dogs and a lot of love to share. We are so eager to grow our family through adoption and we are honored you are taking the time to get to know us. We want you to know that our home is filled with unconditional love, goofiness and laughter, and endless nurturing and support.
Why We Chose Adoption
We have always looked forward to having a family and being parents. When we decided to start trying for a child, Liz got pregnant right away and we were over the moon. However, Liz's pregnancy brought on multiple health complications, leaving us feeling very anxious and putting her on bedrest for most of it. After having our beautiful, healthy baby girl, Lily, we knew that another pregnancy was not the path we would be able to take to grow our family. For us, adoption was an easy choice as it has always been something we have talked about prior to starting a family.
Lily is a fun-loving, inquisitive, funny, compassionate little girl. She loves to read, play outside, and play make believe. She constantly walks around the house singing made up songs or sharing her latest idea for a new game we can play. Lily is over the moon to become a big sister and she understands that her new sibling will "grow in another mommy's tummy" and then join our family. She is already planning everything she wants to teach them, help with, the books she wants to show them and the snuggles she wants to give! Being a parent is our greatest joy and we can't wait to grow our family.
Our Leisure Time
We both grew up playing sports and still like to stay active, whether that is riding bikes, running, or just kicking the ball around outside. We look forward to enjoying any activity our child is interested in. We enjoy playing card games, board games, and other family games.
Adam enjoys golfing and is on a hockey league and every winter does a pond hockey tournament that he looks forward to. He enjoys playing guitar and can figure out most songs on the guitar or piano by ear. Liz enjoys doing various creative projects, such as renovating a doll house (with custom furniture) or creating elaborate birthday cakes for our daughter. Liz loves making cute short videos on our family as well.
While we have our own hobbies, we really enjoy doing things together, such as projects around the house. We have an outdoor playhouse in the plans for next year! Through our numerous DIY projects, we developed a "we can figure it out" attitude and that is something we want to instill in our children. This past summer we built a backyard mud kitchen and Lily loves to make us mud pies and mud soup.
We also built a large garden bed for our vegetable garden. Lily loved picking off the fresh vegetables and our dogs loved trying to attack the hose and get their faces soaking wet whenever we watered our garden!
We both grew up with dogs. We have three dogs that we absolutely love and treat them as an extension of our family. They are always there for you with a tail wag or a cuddle. Zoe, our first and smallest dog, is hyper and spunky, but loves to snuggle. Harvey, our largest dog, we rescued as a puppy, he is the definition of chill and always right by your side. Lucy is the last dog we rescued and she is the definition of happy! She is always involved and has that excited tail wag that can knock a drink over! Our dogs are the best family dogs and are amazing with Lily. When Lily was a baby, they knew to be calm and laid nearby, now that she's older, they love to run and play with her. We can't wait to introduce our new baby to their furry siblings!
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a northwest suburb of Chicago, Illinois. We absolutely love our town and neighborhood. The quaint downtown area is off a lake with great restaurants and a newly redone beach. Our town throws an annual festival in the summer that we love to go to. It features food from the local restaurants, carnival rides and live music.
Our neighborhood is full of young families and kids. It has numerous parks we frequent and an area that's turned into an ice rink in the winter. Adam loves to play hockey and is looking forward to teaching our daughter and future children how to skate! We have multiple trails running through our neighborhood where you can find us going on family walks with our dogs, biking, or going for a run. Adam proposed to Liz while running on the trail together, so it holds a special spot in our hearts.
We are very close with our next-door neighbors who have two young kids. In the summer you can find us all hanging out front with a blow-up pool and splash pad during the day and then grilling dinner together at night.
We absolutely love our home. We live in a four-bedroom house that has an upstairs loft space and finished basement. There you can find Adam's pool table and Chicago sports memorabilia, Liz's arts and craft area, a huge playroom where Lily loves to play and a big comfy couch that is perfect for movies and snuggles!
Our Extended Families
We are blessed to have amazing families that we are very close with. Family is so important to us, and we prioritize spending time with them. Liz's parents live 5 minutes down the road, and we see them often. We go there most Sunday mornings for breakfast. While Liz's mom is making pancakes or waffles, Liz's dad is playing silly made up games with our daughter Lily. There is always a lot of laughter. We also love to drive out to Liz's older brother's house to visit with him, his wife and three young kids. The cousins love playing on their backyard play-set or swimming in their pool.
Adam's parents live only 20 minutes away and we see them weekly. About monthly, Adam's older brother, wife and two young kids, Adam's younger sister and boyfriend, and his grandma, all go to his parent's house, and Adam's dad picks up bagels, lox and corned beef from their favorite bagel shop and we have a great brunch that leaves us all feeling way too full!
Lily has been very fortunate to have both sets of grandparents watch her while we work. Lily began pre-school at the age of three. Our daughter has strong relationships with both sets of grandparents and they are so excited for us to grow our family through adoption - Liz's mom has already started knitting a baby blanket!
From Us to You
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for taking the time to learn more about our family as you are considering making an adoption plan. We can't imagine what a difficult and emotional time this is for you. We hope you feel a connection to our family and see a home filled with happiness, creativity, laughter and love.
We have gone to school with each other since the 5th grade and grew up a couple blocks away from each other. We never seemed to have classes together or hung out in the same groups throughout school. When we were in college, both 20 years old, we ran into each other at a party, started talking, and the rest is history. We both felt that draw to one another that we had never felt before. It is a hard feeling to describe but we knew that we were each other's "one". We love being silly and goofy with one another and making each other laugh. We do everything together and are truly best friends.
Adam works as a project manager and Liz works from home in marketing. We are fortunate to both work for employers that prioritize family and offer a great work life balance because our greatest joy in life is being parents.
We respect what a difficult decision you are facing, but should you choose us to be the parents of your beautiful child, we want you to know how your child will be raised. Your child will be cared for and loved unconditionally, and they will grow up knowing how deep you love them. We don't teach respect out of fear, we believe in teaching children respect by respecting them. Your child will grow up knowing that it's okay to try new things and it's okay to fail. No matter what, they will have us to support them. As they grow up, they will know they are free to love whomever they choose, and we will love them no matter what.
We will help them develop confidence in themselves, to know how to have and use their voice to stand up for what they believe in. To speak up and that what they have to say matters and we are always there to listen. They will grow up in a house where it's okay to have big feelings and to show emotion. We will be there to guide them through how to handle their feelings. They will grow up in a house where curiosity is encouraged and it's okay to ask questions, and even though we may not have all the answers, we will find them together. Our home is a place where they can feel safe to express themselves. We will support their dreams and their passions whatever they are and if their dreams change, then we will support their new dreams. We will teach the importance of kindness, but that it's also okay to say no to things. We will teach them to have empathy, to be able to understand and connect with the feelings of others and use that to build strong relationships. Above all, we will be there, no matter what, to support, love, and care for your child.
We are so excited about the opportunity to expand our family and Lily is so looking forward to meeting her new sibling. We can't wait to see them jumping around together during our spontaneous dance parties and singing silly made up songs, making mud pies in the backyard and picking tomatoes from the garden. Reading books at bedtime or snuggling up on the couch for a family movie with the dogs.
We want you to know that you will always have a special place in our family. We will keep you updated through photos and videos, emails and phone calls, whatever your preference. We want this child to know their adoption story and to know how special you are and how much you love them.
