Our Leisure Time

Visiting a Science Museum in Our City

Music, art, and exploring new places are some of the things that bring us the most joy. Erick sings in our church choir. Lucy loves making up songs on the piano and singing them for Erick and our dogs. We also enjoy gathering with friends and family for karaoke nights. We would love to share these experiences with our child, whether that means teaching them to sing, play the piano, or simply encouraging them to discover their own creative talents.

We also enjoy visiting art museums. We like all types of art – from medieval to contemporary - but especially fun interactive art installations. Our city is home to many wonderful museums, including several designed especially for children, and we look forward to exploring them together as a family.

Another passion we share is travel and outdoor adventure. We love visiting historic sites, exploring new cities, and spending time in nature. Last year, we toured the Alamo and the historic missions in San Antonio. We also hiked among the ancient cliff dwellings of Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado and enjoyed the breathtaking coastline of Big Sur, California. We can’t wait to take our child with us on these adventures!

Our Cultural Heritage

At a Family Wedding

Erick is proud of his Venezuelan American heritage. Born in Venezuela, he grew up speaking Spanish and remains deeply connected to his Hispanic roots. Lucy is of European and Mediterranean heritage and also speaks some Spanish. Together we look forward to raising our child in a bilingual home where Spanish language and Hispanic culture are celebrated and shared.

For Erick, being Hispanic means valuing family above all else — gathering together, supporting one another, and creating strong, lasting connections. We love incorporating these traditions into our daily lives, whether it’s listening to music like Shakira, salsa, reggaeton, and flamenco, or dancing together at family celebrations and in our kitchen at home. Our different cultural backgrounds have strengthened our marriage, broadened our perspectives, and deepened the way we communicate and connect with each other.

We live in a wonderfully diverse community in North Texas where our child will grow up surrounded by people from many different cultures, backgrounds, and traditions. We are excited to provide a home where our child will feel proud of their identity, appreciated for who they are, and supported by a diverse and welcoming community.

Education We will Provide

Erick at Work

Education is very important to us. As educators and researchers in science and technology, we have dedicated our careers to helping others learn and grow. Erick is a university professor of Computer Science, and Lucy is a medical writer and educator with a background in biology and neuroscience. We both enjoy making complex ideas easier to understand. We look forward to supporting our child’s curiosity. We especially look forward to helping our child work through their math and science homework! Our community offers excellent options for K-12 education, including highly regarded public schools, private schools, Montessori programs, and charter schools. We plan to choose the educational environment that best fits our child’s unique personality and learning style. Because Erick is a university professor, our child will be eligible for free tuition at his university. We hope to foster a lifelong love of learning and will encourage our child to pursue whatever subjects and career paths inspire them. Whether their future includes college, graduate school, vocational training, or another path entirely, we will support their goals and dreams. Lucy’s job is 100% remote (working from home), which provides significant flexibility to be actively involved in our child’s education. She will be able to attend school events, field trips, parent-teacher conferences, and the everyday moments that make childhood special.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We live in a vibrant metropolitan community in North Texas that is full of energy, diversity, and opportunity. Our city is home to excellent schools, universities, museums, parks, and a wonderful arts and music scene, giving our child access to enriching experiences as they grow and explore their interests. Erick is a computer science professor at a university in our city, and one special benefit available to our child would be free tuition at his university in the future. Although our city offers the excitement and opportunities of a large metropolitan area, our own neighborhood feels peaceful, welcoming, and family-oriented. We live with our two dogs in a comfortable three-bedroom ranch-style home on a quiet street lined with trees and sidewalks, with two nearby parks just a short walk away. One of the things we love most about our neighborhood is the strong sense of community. We know our neighbors well and regularly spend time together at potlucks, barbecues, and neighborhood gatherings. Many families on our street have young children. Our church and broader social community also provide a warm, supportive environment with frequent family-friendly events and activities. We are excited to raise a child in a home and community filled with love, stability, friendship, and opportunities to learn and grow.

Our Extended Families

With Erick's Family

Erick is Venezuelan American. He was born in Venezuela and grew up speaking Spanish. Sadly, his mother passed away when he was in his young 20s. We keep a close relationship with his father and a very close relationship with his sister and extended family (uncles, aunts, and cousins). Erick’s sister lives in Philadelphia and his extended family lives in Miami. We visit them and they also visit us regularly. Our family get-togethers are filled with delicious Venezuelan meals and Christmas traditions and sometimes dancing!

With Lucy's Brother

We also have a very close relationship with Lucy’s mother, father, and brother, who live in Atlanta. We visit each other regularly, and our time together is spent cooking our favorite foods (barbecue, roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, trifle, and red velvet cake), watching movies, and playing video games. We also enjoy taking nature walks in the pine forests around Lucy’s family’s house. Lucy also has extended family (aunts and cousins) who live closer to us, in Austin and San Antonio.

Both of our families are thrilled that we have chosen to adopt a child. They cannot wait to welcome the child into their families.

From Us to You

Thank you for taking the time to learn about us! We cannot begin to imagine all the emotions, hopes, and challenges that may be part of your life right now. We want you to know that we approach this process with deep admiration for your courage and love.

We are Erick and Lucy, and we live in a metropolitan area in North Texas. We hope to become parents through adoption. More than anything, we want to provide a child with a home where they feel safe, cherished, encouraged, and unconditionally loved every day of their life.

We have been married for 14 years, and we are truly best friends. We enjoy spending time together, whether we're taking our dogs on their morning walk, cooking meals with family, exploring museums, traveling to historic places, or simply enjoying a quiet evening at home. Our relationship is built on love, faith, laughter, and mutual support, and we are excited to share these same gifts with a child.

Family is at the center of our lives. We are blessed to have loving families who are thrilled about our adoption journey. Erick's family brings rich Venezuelan traditions, Spanish language, music, food, and joyful family gatherings. Lucy's family loves spending time together cooking, watching movies, playing games, and exploring nature. Your child would grow up surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and a supportive church community who are already excited to welcome them.

Our Christian faith guides the way we live. We believe every child is a precious gift from God. All children deserve to be nurtured with kindness and patience and given encouragement. We hope to have a welcoming home where a child always feels secure and valued, feeling free to become the unique person they were created to be.

Our home is filled with music and laughter. We also have two adorable dogs, Daisy and Koopa, who are already experts at making people smile. We can picture a child joining us on family walks, helping throw tennis balls for Daisy and Koopa, singing songs around the piano, and visiting grandparents. A child could also take family adventures with us to parks, historic sites, and new places across the country. We look forward to supporting the child’s interests by celebrating their accomplishments, giving comfort during challenges, and helping them to find their gifts.

If you choose adoption and ultimately choose us, we promise to love your child with all our hearts. We also promise to help them always understand the incredible love that surrounded their adoption story from the very beginning. We will honor both your story and your child's heritage and background.

We are open to an ongoing relationship and would be honored to stay connected in whatever way feels best for you, whether through arranging visits, sending photos or letters, or text messaging.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know us. We know this is a deeply personal decision, and we are grateful for your consideration. Whatever you decide, we wish you comfort and peace. We pray together every evening for the opportunity to become parents through adoption, and we will keep you in our prayers as well.

With love and gratitude,

Erick & Lucy
